Measles and newborns

What immunization shots are giving to a newborn baby? Are measles and rubella the same thing? Are newborns protected against measles?

For vaccine recommendations for persons years of age and older, see the Recommended Adult Immunization Schedule. Additional information.

The measles vaccine is very effective in protecting against measles. However, no vaccine is 1 protective so very rarely, people who are vaccinated may develop measles.

It protects against three potentially serious illnesses. It is a two-part vaccination, and in most states, you must. Newborns are among the most vulnerable to the measles virus – but they are too young to be immunized.
