First lieutenant army pay

What is First Lt pay grade? How much does a lieutenant make? Our up-to-date Army pay chart lets you know how much active duty enlisted and officer soldiers earn in base pay.


Base pay accounts for only part of a soldier’s total income. A Second Lieutenant is a commissioned officer in the United States Army at DoD paygrade O-1. A second lieutenant ( grade O-1) is usually promoted to first lieutenant (grade O-2) after months in the Army or months in the Marine Corps and Air Force.

The difference between the two ranks is slight, primarily being experience and a higher pay grade. The history of the rank of lieutenant is shared between that of first and second lieutenants. For first lieutenants, pay begins at $258. After three years, pay goes to $274. Monthly Base Pay : $900.


A first lieutenant is a Commissioned Officer at DoD paygrade O- with a starting monthly pay of $581. Prior Enlisted Pay : $739. Army Drill Pay is money you earn while training on weekends and during full-time training events.


You are compensated hourly for work completed.

Your wages will increase when you climb in rank and years of experience (many newly enlisted Soldiers enter the Army Reserve as a private). The pay chart grows as you increase in rank and as you continue to serve in the military. This is true for both the officer side and the enlisted non-commissioned officer side. So as I started as a second lieutenant.


I started off, which is pay in the military , I believe I was making roughly $0a month, so $30a year. As a first lieutenant in the United States Army , I am given $2roughly, pre-taxe and that is my taxable income, that is my base salary. Included in that is my housing allowance and my food allowance. They typically lead a platoon sized troop. Army Officers began their rank as a Second Lieutenant (O-1). The pay is more, but the other responsibilities are slight. An O-1E makes about $2more per month than a comparable O-1. The E designation stands for prior Enlisted.

The rank of first lieutenant corresponds to pay grade O-2. Army is the lowest of the commissioned officer Army ranks. The appointment of first lieutenant in many navies is held by a senior lieutenant.
