I am in the same situation wks pregnant and my toddler son has chickenpox. So in that sense it’s blessing he has it now. Just fingers crossed my immunity keeps the virus at bay from the unborn baby. Chickenpox and shingles.
In some people the chickenpox virus can become active again later in life and cause shingles. Most pregnant women who get chickenpox recover, with no harmful effects on the baby.
When to get medical advice. I think my year old has chicken pox. I just noticed a few spots on his belly, a couple on his back and one on his leg. And there has been chicken pox in his nursery class. I am weeks pregnant and I read everywhere that it is dangerous during pregnancy.
ZIG must be given within days of first exposure. This is only given if you do not already have the antibodies against chicken pox. All currently recommended vaccines can be given safely to pregnant women.
Exposure to a vaccine via another person who has been vaccinated – whether the vaccine is made from an inactivated (killed) virus or a live, attenuated (weakened) virus – will not cause the illness in you or your baby.
Infection happens less often after exposure in other places, such as a school. People develop symptoms about 7-days after being exposed to chickenpox. I’m pregnant and have just been exposed to chickenpox. Is there risk to my baby? I had chickenpox when I was a child.
Thanks for your reply March. My 3-year-old has had chickenpox for about 2-days, but a close friend has just had a baby and I want to go and help. Is it possible that I am infectious, despite not having the illness?
Because I have been in contact with her, does that make me a carrier? The answer is no: if you have had chickenpox. It mainly affects kids, but adults can get it, too. The telltale sign of chickenpox is a super-itchy skin rash with. I myself had chickenpox when i was younger but i started feeling really itchy every where nothing has come up though so i think its just the worring that im going to get then thats making me itch.
But im really concerned that being in too close contact with my son might harm my unborn child as. It really depends on whether or not you’ve had the virus inthe past and at what stage of pregnancy you’re at. If you had chicken poxyourself when you were young, then your body’s most likely immune to the virusnow and you’ll be far less likely to contract it. If you have already had chickenpox , the good news is that you are immune to the virus and your unborn baby is not at risk.
If you are thinking of getting pregnant and have not had chickenpox , ask your doctor about whether you can be vaccinated.
If you are pregnant and have not had chickenpox , or if you have not lived in the same house with someone who has had chickenpox or shingles, call your doctor right away if you are exposed to chickenpox.
